As of October 8, 2026, we have not found an official release announcement or release date for Claude Fable 5.5. Anthropic's current model directory lists Fable 5.1 alongside Opus 5.5, Sonnet 5.5, and Haiku 5.5. The shared version number on those other models does not establish a Fable release schedule.
If you are searching for Fable 5.5 because you want a stronger coding agent, you can prepare a useful upgrade test now. You do not need to invent a launch date or postpone all your work.
What is confirmed, and what remains unknown?
Do not treat a screenshot, a generated answer naming the model, or a reseller's listing as equivalent to an official announcement. Even a genuine announcement would still leave account-specific access and third-party availability to check separately.
Fable 5.1 and Opus 5.5 are different choices
Anthropic's directory positions Fable 5.1 for demanding reasoning and long-horizon work. Opus 5.5 is a separate released model. Neither name should be rewritten as “Fable 5.5” because it looks newer or performs well on a task.
If you have Fable 5.1 access, use the Claude Code setup guide to check your client, model choice, and billing route. If your work is ready today, the Opus and Sonnet 5.5 comparison helps you choose a currently documented candidate.
Prepare the task you want a new model to solve
Pick an unresolved problem where a better result would matter: a difficult bug, a migration that keeps breaking neighboring behavior, or a patch review that needs more careful reasoning. Save the starting code and the precise failure.
Write the acceptance check before seeing the new output. For a bug fix, include both the failure that should disappear and the existing behavior that must survive. Set a limit on time or spending, and record how much human correction the current model needs.
That gives you a baseline for a future release. Without it, a polished answer can feel like progress even when the patch does not work. The coding-agent evaluation guide explains how to keep the comparison small enough to run.
What to verify when an announcement appears
Read the actual release and model documentation. Confirm the exact identifier, supported interface, access conditions, and price for your route. A monthly subscription price and a per-token API price answer different questions.
For an existing integration, also check tool use, thinking controls, response formats, and documented migration changes. Do not assume changing a string is sufficient. For Claude Code, confirm that the model is available to the account and environment that will run the task.
Finally, repeat the saved task from the same independent starting state. Compare the accepted result, repair time, latency, and actual charge. A vendor benchmark can help you choose what to test; it cannot replace that check.
Keep the project ready, rather than waiting for a name
In Agent.Space, the Workspace keeps project files while you use separate Sessions with supported Agents and compatible models. That lets you keep working with a currently available configuration and preserve a clear handoff for a later trial. The next Session still needs the task requirements and current state; shared files do not automatically transfer chat history.
Open Agent.Space to check the current choices, or read how the Workspace works first. This is an invitation to use available tools, not an offer of Fable 5.5 access. Agent.Space is independent from Anthropic.
Reporting cutoff: October 8, 2026. This article is a dated status and preparation guide. It does not promise a release date, future update, price, or early access.
